 Here is her latest news....

Hi, its Abby here giving you my final blog of the season.

On the 26th July I competed in the British Summer Championships in the 200m butterfly at Sheffield Ponds Forge. I was feeling excited but nervous too. My heat was one of the first events of the day, I was apprehensive to get into the water and swim. My race felt good, however it wasn’t a PB and I missed out on a place in the final. I got 2.23 and my pb is 2.22.62. Although, my swim this year was much better than last year. My coach was pleased with my performance this year as he said that I had made progress on being able to control my nerves and race well early in the morning. I was feeling frustrated with my performance at the British and I wanted to show to myself and everyone else that I could get a PB at the highest level meet of the season just like I did two years ago.

Next up I had the Swim England Summer Meet on the 1st August also at Ponds Forge in Sheffiled. I was swimming the 100m butterfly, I was really excited. I was ready to get into the water and show everyone what I could do. My heat was great, I got a PB by half a second. I managed to get into the final seeded 4th! I was going into the final in lane 6 which is my lucky lane as I won my national title in that lane two years before! As my heat was finished by 10am and the finals started at 5:30 I had the whole day ahead of me. I went to Meadowhall with some of my friends who had come to support and some other swimmers. It was really fun and it was good for me to keep moving throughout the day before the final. At 4:30 I got back into the pool to warm up, my coach and I worked my dive and breakout before the final. I felt strong in the warmup and I was really excited for the final. After that I got ready to go down to the call room. I got focused by listening to some music. My final was coming up soon, the final before me had just dived in and my heart was beating so fast. One by one we all got called out to walk onto poolside, when my name got called out I felt a rush of excitement, I was ready. I dove in, however I was first up off the dive and I didn’t stay underwater for long enough, so next season I need to work on my dive and breakout. My first 50 was ok, although I did turn 8th but I brought it back on the second 50 and I came 3rd!! I got a bronze medal in the 100 fly at the English Nationals, I was ecstatic. After my final I ran back up to the stands to see my friends and my coach who whooped for me as I walked over towards them. I was so proud to have finished the season on a high. Overall, this season was an interesting one, I had good moments but also some bad ones but I was so happy to win a National bronze medal at the end of it.

I will catch up with everyone at the start of next season!

Thanks Abby
