Hi, it’s Abby here.

I haven’t spoken in a while, but I’m back to give you an update on how my Counties went this year! Counties took place at the end of January and the beginning of February. I did all of the events bar the long one, 800m! In the first weekend I did one of my focus events, 100 fly. I got a PB but narrowly missed a medal in the final by less than a tenth of a second! Also in the first weekend I had both the 400 freestyle and 400 IM, I PB’d in my 400 free and it was a really big PB! I was really happy with it although I came 4th again which was annoying. My 400 IM wasn’t as good, I missed out on a PB which was disappointing as I knew I could’ve done better. My other races in the first weekend weren’t great as I didn’t PB in any others. When I got home afterwards I was really disappointed with myself but I was trying to stay positive and look forward to the next County weekend at my favourite pool, Louth!

The second weekend was much better overall. On the first day, the first race was 200 IM, I was really happy with my swim as I showed strength in all four strokes and got a 2 second PB. In my next race, 100 breaststroke, I got another 2 second PB and I was really happy with my technique as I felt fast! On the second day I had the 200 butterfly, it didn’t go quite to plan as I got nervous and then didn’t relax into the race. I missed out on a PB but I got third for my age group, which I was proud of. My time was 2.21, a second off my PB. Overall after the two weekends I only got two bronze medals and 5 PBs out of 15 races, so it wasn’t the best Counties I’ve ever had, but I’ve taken positives out of it and things are looking up!

I’ve got a competition on the 24th March to get myself ready for Midland Championships which are in the middle of April. I’m really looking forward to them because I’ve got a lot to prove in this long course season and many opportunities are in front of me! I want to qualify for the British Championships again and in more events than just the 200M Fly.

I will give another update after my competition at the end of March and tell you how it goes!
